Thyme to show you Tree Farm Tavern Santa

Christmas has come and gone! 

I have packed away all the Christmas MAGIC. 

I am still trying to get caught up with all my BLOG posts of Christmas projects!

Today I wanted to show you a project 

called 

Tree Farm Tavern Cone Santa

Antique Maroon, Black Green, Blue Grey Mist, Colonial Green, Cool White, Deep Burgundy, Deep Teal, DeLane's Dark Flesh, Dove Grey , Honey Brown, Light Cinnamon, Mocha

Lets Paint!!!

I began by applying DecoArt  GESSO to my canvas surface. 

Once my surface had dried I sanded it lightly. 

I removed any dust with a damp cloth.

 I then applied a second coat of Gesso.

I applied 3 coats of Honey Brown.  Let dry between coats.

I then transferred the main design lines to the surface and base coated them.

Working on the face.

Painting the tavern sign.

Once I had the tavern sign painted I added some Glamour Dust Ice Crystal to the snow to make it sparkle. 

I used a small stencil brush to dab Christmas Green Twinkles to the highlighted areas along the bottoms of the tiers on the large tree.

*** It is important to remember that in order to allow the wood base to fit into the Santa cone, you must be precise in transferring the glue lines, applying the Tacky Glue and rolling the canvas into the cone shape. Always check the fit of the base before the glue dries so adjustments can easily be made.

There are several different finishes in the Dura Clear line. 

It's a matter of preference the look you want as an end result.

I applied two coats of Dura Clear Ultra Matte Varnish to my Santa

I attached two rusty stars to the top of his hat to hide the unfinished tip.

It's thyme to show you "Red Bell Bakers" a Christmas ornament I painted

Today I wanted to show you another Christmas ornament that I painted

called

Red Bell Bakers

I got a little busy painting before Christmas

and 

got behind on posting all my projects!

This was a quick and easy project to do!

It is especially fun to do IF you know a BAKER you can give it too!

My Palette

DecoArt Americana Acrylics

Camel, Honey Brown, Marigold, Milk Chocolate, Fawn, Country Red, Lamp Black, Plantation Pine, Black Green, Antique Green, Dusty Rose, Burnt Sienna, Antique White , Buttermilk, Warm White

The surface was two separate pieces.

Frame and ornament.

I began by base coating one side of the frame with Country Red using a medium size stencil brush.

I loaded the brush and pounced on a heavy coat of paint to create texture.

I squirted two nickel size puddles of Honey Brown and Camel in the center of the ornament.

I used a "press and lift" motion with the flat side of a sponge brush working the paint out towards the edges. This will blend and mottle the colors. While the paint is still wet, squirt out 5 "pencil eraser" size puddles of Marigold. I used the same dirty sponge brush to "press and lift" over the surface to blend the Marigold into the colors. The end result should be a rich Butterscotch color with a bit of mottling.

Now back to the frame!

Next I mixed a woodgraining glaze 

using 

Lamp Black

 and

Clear Glaze Medium

To do this I squirt a dime size puddle of Lamp Black on my palette.  Around this puddle I squirted six dime size puddles of Clear Glaze. I mixed this well with my palette knife.

I then painted a heavy coat of glaze onto the frame. I then laid a 2oz. bottle of paint on its side and rolled it over the glaze. The "rolling" should create a slight pattern in your glaze. I then loaded a 3/4" flat brush with glaze. Use the chisel edge to tap around the edge of the frame. This will create distinct lines over the faint glaze pattern.

Let this dry well!

Now to paint the BAKER!

I like to use the Silver Ultra Mini detail brushes for a project like this!

I applied Matte Varnish to all the painted surfaces.

For a sparkle of "sugar" on the spoon and cookie I sprinkled on Glamour Dust while the varnish was still wet.

I threaded some thin black ribbon through the Red Bell

I glued the ribbon loop and the RED BELL between the frame and surface.

I found the perfect gift box for the ornament!

Thyme for some Santa Ornaments

4 more days!

Well the STUDIO is a BUSY place as I try to put the finishing touches on all the Christmas MAGIC!

Even my Elf HINKLEY has been working overtime!

Today I wanted to show you some SANTA ornaments that I have been painting.

Black Plum , Bright Green, Burnt Sienna, Burnt Umber, Fiery Red, Fleshtone, Graphite, Heritage Brick, Khaki Tan, Lamp Black Leaf Green, Light Buttermilk, Neutral Grey Orange Flame, Slate Grey, Soft Black, Titanium White, Tomato Red

Lets Paint!

When I paint multiples of a project I often completely paint one piece then go on to do the others.

Coat is base coated with one coat of Heritage Brick, then 2 coat of Tomato Red.

Shading on coat is done with Black Plum.

I highlighted the coat first with Fiery Red then Orange Flame.

You can either personalize the centers, write a saying or even frame your favorite photo.

I love the vintage look of the Santa's

I added some White Frost Metallic Lustre to the toes of Santa's boots

I used a small circle stencil to add the dots to the backs of the ornaments with White.

I added Glamour Dust Champagne Glitter Paint to Santa

I use Silver Micron Mini detail brushes for lettering and tiny details

Personalize!

I added snow "glitter" by brushing 

on

 StarliteVarnish

I then sprinkled on Glamour Dust Sprinkle on Glitter for more SPARKLE
