Thyme to paint with Lynne Andrews

I recently joined
the
Cape Cod Mayflower Decorative Artists Chapter

Lynne Andrews
recently came to teach
HARE'S Trouble
to
 our group

We could use a surface of our choice for the project
I chose this wood basket.
I have it base coated with the line drawing transferred.

Everyone is hard at work on their projects!

This is my project as I was working on it.

Lynne is not only a great teacher but she is also fun to paint with!

I did not complete my project in class!

I brought it home to complete it.

The lettering
on
Lynne's projects
 is
always beautiful
but
time consuming!

After the lettering was complete
I gave it several light sprays
of
Krylon Workable Fixative.

The "fixative" will set your lettering
 before you varnish
and
prevent any smearing!

I applied several coats
 of
Dura Clear Matte Varnish
to my piece.

This is the finished top to my basket.

The saying on the top of the basket reads:

"Where is HEAVEN? Is it not just a friendly garden plot, walled in stone and roofed with sun, where the days pass one by one, Surely God is in this place, for I have seen Him : face to face. "

This is a side view of the basket.

Here my finished basket.
This was a fun SpRiNg Thyme project to paint!

Happy Painting !

It's thyme to show you a Prim Bunny

Today
I am going to show you a design
by
Terrye French
that I have painted
called
PRIM BUNNY BOWL

The original design was painted by
Sharon Bond
for
PAINTING WITH FRIENDS
Sharon used a wood bowl for the design
I used a small wood breadboard
to complete my project

My Pallette

Honey Brown, Lamp Black, Traditional Burnt Umber, Driftwood, Bleached Sand, Warm White, Shading Flesh, Dark Chocoalate, Wisteria, French Grey Blue, Celery Green, Antique Green, Marigold and Mocha

Supplies

Homespun, grungy tag, old tooth brush for paint spatter, white candle, sanding disc, graphite paper, fine line permanent black marker

I first base coated my bread board using
 Lamp Black
When dry I took a candle and rubbed areas that I wanted to look worn,
mostly around the edges and the handle.
I then painted over the Lamp Black with Honey Brown.
I used my sanding disc to sand the areas where I had applied the wax
allowing the initial Lamp Black base coat to show

I used graphite paper to transfer the
bunny design
I then base coated the bunny

I dry brushed the highlights

Painting the basket and crow

Adding the final details!
I used diluted Lamp Black and a liner brush to out line my project
I applied 2 coats
of
Americana Dura Clear Matte Varnish

to my finished piece

When dry I used diluted
Lamp Black
with an old toothbrush to spatter my piece
I used a piece of paper to cover my bunny
and
only spattered the
background!

I made a "grungy" tag and wrote
Prim Bunny
on it!
(you can find my grunging recipe by clicking on the recipe tab at top of page)

I tied my tag on with homespun

Here is my finished Prim Bunny project!

Thyme to show you how to make some Primitive Easter Eggs!

Today
I would like to show you how to make some
PRIMITIVE EASTER EGGS

Lets gather some supplies and paint!
Supplies
colored plastic Easter eggs, cinnamon, thin wire or twine, homespun, old paint brush, drying rack or egg carton, glue gun, drill , disposable rubber gloves, disposable container for  mixing paint
Paint
grey metal paint primer, DecoArt Americana Khaki Tan paint
Lets get started!

The eggs that I found had holes drilled in the top.
If you want to hang your eggs, now would be a good time to drill your holes
IF
your eggs do not have holes in them!
If your eggs come apart in the center use your glue gun
and
a dab of glue to glue them shut!

Spray a couple of LIGHT coats of gray metal primer to your eggs!
Let your eggs dry well between coats.
I use an old egg carton to stand my eggs in to dry.
I spray the tops first , when dry I rotate them and spray the bottoms.

Let your eggs dry well!
Pour some Khaki Tan paint in a disposable bowl
(depending on how many eggs you are painting you may need several bottles of paint)
Sprinkle CINNAMON into your paint a little at a time.
Mix well.
The paint will be THICK!
( this is what gives your paint texture and adds flecks of color)
BEFORE PAINTING
If you are going to hang your eggs
cut a small piece of wire or twine
and
stick into the holes on top of your egg.
Secure with a dab of glue
You are now ready to PAINT your eggs!
Use an old scruffy brush and mush the paint on your eggs.
The thicker the better!
You don't need to try to get these SMOOTH!
They are PRIM Easter eggs!
Let your eggs dry well!

Cut strips of homespun

You can tie your homespun at the top of your egg

I display my eggs on my primitive tree.
I made this tree using an old antique sugar tin I found
at a thrift shop!

 I display my
 " primitive tree"
on an old dough box in my dining room
I make various seasonal decorations to hang on it

I saved some of my eggs to display in my yellow ware bowls

I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial to make primitive
EASTER Eggs!

Thyme for a new Painting With Friends Design called Spring Thyme is HARE

SPRING THYME IS HARE
was a fun design to paint

The inspiration for this design came from Terrye French
with the prim bunny shape that I cut out to paint on

I decided to make it into a
WELCOME SIGN

It is always fun to see a design come to life!

I painted and hand lettered  the welcome sign

I added painted wood buttons to the pennies

You can purchase

It is THYME to say Happy Easter

As I prepare for Easter my thoughts always turn to my Dad .....I think of him EVERDAY AND MISS HIM.  13 years ago I lost my Dad to Pancreatic cancer the day before Easter.....I miss him every day but EVERY Easter now is bittersweet without him as I look at the chair he once sat in around our table.   He was in HOSPICE at home when he died..I remember praying each day for JUST ONE MORE DAY with him ...as I sat by his beside holding his hand the night before he died I knew in my heart that he had really left us 6 months previous when he was diagnosed as terminal.....I told him that night that it was OK to go....and that my Mom and all of us would be OK ....he was in a coma...minutes later He sat up straight in bed.............he was pointing around the room........I tried to calm him and lay him down gently...I said "Dad what are you doing?"........and he weekly replied....."I'm counting the ANGELS"....(he hadn't spoken in weeks)  he made it thru the night...we had torrential rains and thunderstorms that night..........the next morning as I sat with him....( his bed was in my Mom's beautiful sun room) I opened the blinds and outside there was a gorgeous RAINBOW.......on the Patio was a bench my dad had built with bird houses on the posts and I had painted ....a BLUEBIRD ( my fathers favorite bird) was building a nest in the bench. It was at that very moment while holding his hand my Dad left us and went to HEAVEN.  Dad I so miss you and LOVE you. ~ LOVE YOUR PARENTS, treat them with LOVING care for you will only know their value when you see their EMPTY CHAIR.

Wishing you a Blessed Easter with those you love,
Hugs,
Lynn

Thyme to COOK?

Do you like to cook????
I do!

I won't be doing much cooking though
today!!
I am PAINTING!!!

I have been
 REALLY
busy designing and painting stock for shops
This is a large
BUNCH OF CARROTS
cut from rough sawn lumber
that I designed
They would look great on your door, porch , shed etc.
the Grungy tag says
"CaRrOtS, cArRoTs a rabbits delight

I cherish each and every bite"

I also designed these
EXTRA LARGE
CaRrOts
They are also cut from
rough sawn lumber
They are wired together in the center
with
RUSTY WIRE
I added "greens" for the tops

I painted this
BUNNY
 using
a
Renee Mullins
design

This was a fun design to paint!

I added a homespun bow to the neck of his shirt
and
some twine to the
CaRrOtS

I tied a little metal can to his hand

I love how he came out!!!

Happy Painting!

Lynn
