The STUDIO gets BUSY at this THYME of year!

It's that THYME of year again
when things can get pretty BUSY
in the
STUDIO!

Because
it's
THYME

TO MAKE THE MAGIC HAPPEN!

Step inside
and
I'll show you some of the pieces that I am working on

I'm working on lots of ornaments!

This is a wonderful
SANTA
design by Pam Grady
that I'm painting on MORE ornaments!

This is a design called
Rolling Out the Cookie Dough
by
Prudy Vannier

It's a REAL favorite of mine!

NOW
You might be wondering where my ELF
HINKLEY
has been?

He arrived
EARLY
this year so I was hopeful that we would not fall behind on preparations to
MAKE THE MAGIC
happen for Christmas

HINKLEY
was made by the
MASTER ELF MAKER
BRENDA
at

I had requested an Elf that could help me
in the
STUDIO
 to
sand & base coat pieces, type patterns, and some "light assembly work"
well....
he can't
TYPE

This
 ELF
also needed to be able to help with all the other
usual Christmas preparations
such as wrapping, decorating , baking etc.

Every thyme I take out the
KITCHENAID
he tells me to
BEAT IT
because
it's THYME for his SPINNING workout......sigh

BEFORE
the Elves leave Brenda's workshop
they must attend
ELF CLASSES

We all know how much I love to paint, design and create....
I've even had the PRIVLEDGE to MEET and PAINT
with some
REAL BIG BRUSHES
(ARTISTS/DESIGNERS)
who always inspire me
to
PAINT OUTSIDE THE LINES
I've shared so many painting stories with
  HINKLEY
during our thymes in the
STUDIO

But a PAINTER he is not!
Nor does he even try to be.......when I try to teach
him....he says that I don't need any more
BIG BRUSHES
in the STUDIO.... I have enough!

Well.... it looks like I shall be heading back to my painting table
ALONE

 I wasn't expecting him to become a
BIG BRUSH
but
a little help with base coating would be appreciated!

WELL
 I am just going to

Keep those brushes flying!
Happy Painting !

It's THYME to talk about BIG BRUSHES!

Last week I blogged about how I had walked into my
STUDIO
to find my
LIL Elf HiNkLeY
hanging from the
LARGE RULER
that I have in there

If you missed that post you can read about it
I had been talking to him about
how I was going to be attending
NET
New England Traditions

NET is a trade show for Decorative Painters
Click on the link HERE to visit their website.

HiNkLeY
asked
"what do you do there?"

I've been decorating my new STUDIO
and
found some old paint brushes, and wooden boxes

I told HiNkLeY that you could take classes there,
meet other decorative painters, shop till you drop
and
best of all
you could meet
BIG BRUSHES!
He looked at me with a confused look on his face and asked
"How do you meet a paintbrush?"
I just smiled and explained to him that
BIG BRUSHES
was a term given to the well known Artist/Designers in the industry.
I told him I not only planned to BUY some new brushes there
 but
I hoped to chat with some
BIG BRUSHES

I not only bought new brushes
but
I also bought some wonderful patterns and surfaces.
I met some old and new painting friends .
I especially enjoyed chatting with
Cynthia Erekson and Kim Hogue
who are
BIG BRUSHES!
Well imagine my surprise when I came home
 and
opened the door to my STUDIO to this!

Now where in the world did HiNkLeY ever get that BIG BRUSH?

It looks like the MAGIC is beginning to happen here.

Which reminds me I need to get back to my painting table!

Happy Painting!

Thyme to show you a SEASIDE Santa I painted

Because I live on
CAPE COD
I needed
a
SEASIDE SANTA
 for
my porch
I painted this one last
Christmas

I used a pattern from
Country Whims purchased a long thyme ago
called
Candle Santa
to make him.

I have added many of my own touches such as the
 face and beard
which were free hand painted
Santa stands 65" when completed

I
 LOVE
 to paint
SANTA BEARDS

It takes patience
AND
several layers of paint!

H0 - HO - HO!

I found these LARGE resin candy canes at a thrift store
I
 added some
Diamond Dust
to
make them
SPARKLE

I added
STARFISH
to Santa's wreath

I used BURLAP to make Santa's sack

I grunged and baked the fabric to make it look old

I then stitched the sack

I added "snow" and snowflakes
 to the
 tree!

AND

Then
 I assembled Santa!

HO - HO - HO

I have made several of these Santa's

They are fun to make but a LOT of work!!!!
 Happy Painting!
