Thyme to paint a unique New England Coastal piece

WEATHER WISE
is a design by
Cynthia Erekson
that I have painted

My surface was a
Wooden Whale Weathervane
measuring 6 1/2" wide at the base, 14" high
(base , body finial and whale)
The surface and pattern are available
at

After sealing my surface with
 Americana Multi Purpose Sealer
I then sanded it
and
was ready to paint!

My palette included the following
DecoArt Americana Paints
Dark Chocolate, Colonial Green, Lamp Black, Honey Brown, Desert Turquoise, Whispering Turqoise, Fawn, Paynes Grey, Antique Teal Milk Chocolate, Burnt Sienna, Mustard Seed, Camel , Seaglass and Sand

I am painting this piece as part of the
DecoArt Blogger Outreach Program

DISCLOSURE:   While I received DecoArt products to complete this post, all opinions and ideas are 100% my own. I often use designs by various artists to paint my pieces, in which case credit is given to the Designer of the pattern.

I also used some
Americana Dazzling Paints
for
some wonderful effects!

The whale was done using a silk sponge for texture, then pounced with a sponge dipped in
Americana Dazzling Worn Penney
which gave it a wonderful "aged patina"

Texture was also added to the base
by using a mix of
Honey Brown, Milk Chocolate
and
Americana Glazing Medium
along with a graining tool

I applied the mixture with a brush
then pulled my graining tool thru it.

This dries to a hardened texture

The "ball" was painted using Burnt Sienna over Dark Chocoalte pounced in with a brush for added texture.
When dry I dry brushed some
Americana Dazzling Splendid Gold
accents.
I then applied more glazing mixture to the base of the finial
 and
added texture to that in the same manner as the base.

I then measure and taped off the sides of the "body" of the piece for painting

Each of the 4 sides
NORTH, SOUTH EAST AND WEST
were painted with a different scene

Adding some shading

On the right you can see the finished ball with the glazing texture

Painting the buildings

I add a few drops of
DecoArt
EASY FLOAT
to my paint.
It helps when painting on a textured surface such as this!

Each side is lettered and has a different scene

NORTH

SOUTH

EAST

WEST

Once my pieces were dry I used
DecoArt Americana Wood Glue
to put them together
I then varnished using
Americana Dura Clear Matte Varnish

My New England Coastal piece is now finished and ready to enjoy!
I hope you have enjoyed following along with me as I painted this piece.

Hugs,
Lynn

It's thyme to TAKE CARE OF MY HEART

TAKE CARE OF MY HEART
is
 a new design
 that I have painted
for
Painting With Friends

I painted this design on a wood pizza peel

BUT
it would look great on many surfaces!

this design was inspired
by
Terrye French

The snowmen were painted using
 a
"dry brush".

Layers of drying brushing
added a nice contour to the snowmen

Adding facial details

I kept my colors soft.

This was a fun pattern to paint!!!
