It's THYME to play it again Sam

PLAY IT AGAIN SAM
was a
HUGE mural
that I painted going up our stairs

I used a design from one of John Slineys books
to paint this mural

I just love such a large
BLANK
canvas!
We were in the process of renovating our house at the time
so it was easier to paint this
BEFORE
the finished stair threads were installed

This was my husband on staging painting the walls before I started the mural
Did I mention that
 I HATE HEIGHTS!!!

Normally I would use a projector to enlarge such a design
but
there was just was no room in the stairs to use the projector

I had to enlarge the design on large sheets of drafting paper
then transfer the design to the wall with graphite paper.
This was probably the hardest part of the whole project!!!!

With that done I got to work painting in the background!

I then proceeded to paint Sam!

This shows the start of his pants being base coated

It can get bit akward painting such a large design
especially in a stairway!!

Sam and I spent MANY hours together!

But I enjoyed every one of them!

It was fun watching him come to life!

I especially loved painting his beard!

Starting to paint his hat

and
CROW

Adding shading and detail to hat , face and hair

Painting the post that Sam is leaning against

Starting to paint the trees

A view from the TOP of the stairs

Working on the trees

Starting the Saltbox houses

Salbox houses done

Working on the sheep!

Sheep!

This was a BIG project to work on!
BUT
THE END RESULT WAS WORTH IT!

Happy Painting!

Thyme to see a design by Kim Hogue that I painted called Harbor Sea Coast

Harbor Sea Coast
is a design by
Kim Hogue CDA

that I painted

on a small childs armoire
that was mine growing up

I painted my design on the door to the armoire

I had to adjust the design some to make it fit my surface

My surface measured
30" x 15"

I started out basecoating the surface, whale sign
and
 lighthouse

Painting the lighthouse
and

adding the checks

working
on the
WHALE SIGN

I used an "artistic" license to add my town to the sign
which is
Barnstable

working on the sailboat

adding some shading to sail

and
STRIPE
to the sail!

Now a STAR!

I originally painted
 BOSTON

on the sail as
Kim Hogue
did in her directions
BUT

I changed my mind and used an "artistic license"
and
painted
CAPE COD
instead!

Kim uses distressing sticks a lot in her designs

They are FUN to use!

They add so much dimension to your project!

Kim Hogue

is the
 QUEEN of DETAIL!

She loves her embellishments!

I painted WOOD buttons for the wheels on the boat

painting the flag

FINISHED!

This piece was a LOT of work!
I love it!

But worth it!

Thyme to give you The key to my HEART

Key to my HEART
is a
Terrye French Design
that I have painted several times

I have always loved painting this sweet design!

When painting the facial detail

it is best painted with a light touch of your brush using washes

Adding some shading and dimension

The HEARTS
are painted in such a way to look like they were
stiched on

I added a vine and berries around the edge of the plate.

I love to paint vines.....they take a little practice

I drilled 2 holes in the side of the plate
 and
strung a satin ribbon thru them

I addes a rusty old key
and
a grungy tag that says

KEY TO MY HEART

Once I had varnished my piece
I sprayed just the pinafore part of the dress with spray glue
 then sprinkled on some
DIAMOND DUST
for
SPARKLE!
I am sending this plate to a
very DEAR friend
as a
SURPRISE!

You can purchase this pattern at
PAINTING WITH FRIENDS

So now you have
THE KEY TO MY HEART!
I hope you like it!!!
Hugs,
Lynn
