in the mid section I painted a salt box house
I love the pineapple on the door

at the bottom of the clock I painted the words
welcome friends
I also added some decorative tacks

Thyme for a Kim Klassen deSign.......a Pineapple....A history of hospitality and friendship

The pineapple has long been a popular
 symbol of hospitality and friendship.
This is a pineapple sign
that
I have painted using a

KIM KLASSEN DESIGN

A little history of how the pineapple
became a symbol of hospitality
" This symbolism has a lengthy history beginning when
Christopher Columbus and his men landed on the island now known as
Guadeloupe on their second voyage of discovery.
In 1493, Christopher Columbus brought the fruit back to Europe
from his voyage through the Carib Islands.
This tropical king of fruits was crowned the "pineapple"
by the English because of its resemblance
to a pine cone and its juicy center, which reminded them of an apple."

I used the same pattern and made a smaller version of this sign
You can find this pattern
in Kim Klassen's Book
Prairie Folk Art

"To the Carib, the pineapple symbolized hospitality,
and the Spaniards soon learned they were welcome
if a pineapple was placed by the entrance to a village.
This symbolism spread to Europe, then to Colonial North America,
where it became the custom to carve the shape of a pineapple
into the columns at the entrance of a plantation."

I designed this large door pineapple
It has always been a huge seller
for me year arourd

I use rough wood to cut it out
and a wood burning tool
to add the pattern to the pineapple
It is heavily antiqued to give it
an "old" look

"During early Colonial days in the United States,
families would set a fresh pineapple
in the center of the table as a colorful centerpiece
of the festive meal, especially when visitors joined them in celebration.
This symbolized the utmost in welcome and hospitality
to the visitor, and the fruit would be served as a special desert after the meal"

Hope you enjoyed this short history of the pineapple
I just love to paint them!
Happy Painting!

Baath thyme and a Banner Tutorial

This is a wreath I made
using part of a design by
Renee Mullins
You can find Renee at
 Plum Purdy Designs
I first cut out the sheep and painted him

I added a rusty star to his penney rug
and
tied a rusty bell around his neck
with  homespun

I drilled tiny holes in the sheep and
attached him to a small grapevine wreath

I made a banner for the wreath using coffee stained muslin
 I cut out a
banner shape
I stitched it together
adding a piece of
interfacing between layers

THANK YOU
TO

Kim Dewalt
Old Road Primitives
for the banner tutorial!

Iron - on Transfer Method
Open up a blank MS Word document . Center your cursor
on the page.  In the toolbar, at the top of the document,
click on INSERT, PICTURE, and then WORD ART.
a Word Art box will appear, click which ever box you would like.
Once you click on a box, a text box will appear,
type your saying into that box.  This is where you can choose a
different style and size font.  Once you are finished click OK.  Click on
your saying.  Now your saying should have a box around it.  A small
Wort Art toolbar should appear.  Click on Format Word Art.  That is the button
with the paint can and brush.  A new box will appear,
under the COLOR and LINES tab you can change the FILL and LINE color
of your saying by clicking on the COLOR drop down boxes
and picking out the colors that you would like your saying to be.
Click on your saying again and once again your saying
should have a box around it.   In the very bottom left hand corner
of your Word Document, click on the words DRAW, then click
on FLIP OR ROTATE, then click on  HORIZONTAL.
This will give Your saying the "MIRROR IMAGE" that you will
need to print it onto iro-on transfer paper.  If you would like
to make your saying bigger....click on your saying until the
box around it appears again, put your cursor in the
corner until you see an arrow, drag the corner out to
the size that you would like your saying to be. You are now ready
to print your saying onto iron - on transfer paper.
Follow directions on package of iron - on transfer paper
 for ironing onto your fabric

Here is my finished wreath!

I hung this wreath on the door to my
Baaaaaaaaath room!
Happy Painting!

Thyme for birdhouses, spring flowers and breakfast with a friend

We have had some beautiful Spring days
with temperatures as high as the 90's
so
I am loving how everything is starting to bloom
in my yard

the yard is still very wet because of the very heavy rains
of the past few weeks
I haven't been able to do
to much cleaning up of my garden beds

I got my water pump running today
I love the sound of it from my deck

my husband made this house
for our deck
I use it to store all
my small garden tools, gloves etc.
I designed and painted it

it has a real shingled roof!

I cut some flowers while outside today

I love bringing
SPRING
inside after the long winter!

I finished painting another large sunflower

for a friend of mine

Michelle and I were friends long before
we became bloggers!
We are meeting for breakfast tomorrow
so she can get her sunflower

I also finished painting this birdhouse

Isn't he a great cat!!!
his sign says
SCAT!
This is a
Debbie Forgac Design
from the book
Simple Gatherings

I also want to show you a bench
my husband made for my Mom's birthday last year
I designed and painted it

here is a close-up
of the birdhouses on the bench
I painted flowers and bees around
the bottom

My Mom even had birds come to nest in it!

Happy Painting!

Thyme for a Kim Klassen Design and a Penney For Your Thoughts

A Penney For your Thoughts
I just finished painting this sign
it is a
  Kim Klassen Design
 the
pattern comes from
Kim's book
Prairie Blessings

I love how it looks like a penney rug

I found this quote and really like it
so
I leave you with this thought
for today.

"If you search the world for happiness,
you may find it in the end,
for the world is round
and
will lead you back to your door."
~Robert Brault

May you find some
HAPPINESS
today and everday!

Thyme to see what I'm working on now

DO NOT PIN MY PHOTOS TO PINTEREST

I hope you all had a great Easter!
I did!
Now that Easter has come and gone
I have to say the bunnies
have stopped multiplying here...
LOL!
I've been busy going thru patterns
and
designing new ones
for summer
My husband will be away next week
so I kept him busy in the basement
this weekend
cutting out  a "few" things to keep
me busy while he is gone
sooooooooo
here is a peek at what I'm working on now....

I also baked up several batches of
these salt dough ornaments

I think I'm going to be rather busy!
Hugs,
Lynn
