Thyme for a HARVEST SCARECROW

I don't know where
the
SUMMER
went!

It
is
SEPTEMBER
already!

Step inside my
STUDIO

I have even started to paint
for
FALL!

Today I want to show you a project
called
HARVEST SCARECROW

The design
is
by
who
 is often referred to
as

The Queen of Detail!

Kim did not disappoint with this pattern packet.....look at ALL those pages!!!

My Pallette

Antique White, Autumn Red, Avocado, Avocado Dip, Black Green, Camel, Expresso, Lamp Black, Saffron Yellow, Sand, Soft Black, Spiced Pumpkin, Traditional Burnt Sienna, Traditional Raw Sienna

Let's Paint!

I used a roller brush to apply the basecoat
to the
masonite surface.
This gives
an
eggshell texture.
It makes base coating so much easier!
Wonderful
tip
Kim!

Kim
uses so many tricks in her patterns
 to
create texture and interest.
The
is
 one of them !

Distressing
eliminates having to add a lot
 of
shading, highlights
and
detail.

As I worked
 on the
  pants and jacket
I could not believe
 how much they looked
 like
WOOL

Another wonderful technique that Kim uses
is
which is done with
a
dry brush

The texture of the jacket
was
achieved
by
 scumbling

Adding the blanket stitch to jacket

Painting the buttons
 and
 vines in the pocket

Starting work
on the
hat , face and hair

The lines in the hat
were done
with
sanding sticks

Painting
 the
band on the hat

I painted
the
  bird.
The star on hat
is a
rusty tin star
embellishment!

Now I'm working on painting
 the
hair

Hair
is
done!

Don't you just LOVE his sweet face?

I used
Deco Art One Step Crackle
to
age the fence piece

The small pumpkin
was a
 rusty tin embellisment
 that I painted

Painting
the
pumpkin
and
sunflower pole

I bought
the
embellishment kit
that goes to this project

Here I am working on
 the
harvest sign
and
sunflower petals

The sunflower petals are cut from wool

After assembling
the
sunflower
I attached it to my surface

The bow around the scarecrows neck
 is
several strands of burlap that you paint
then
glue on

The
center
of the
sunflower is wool
I painted with some accent lines

The patch
on
 the pants
 is
cut from
burlap and painted

A pin is then attached!

Fence
 and
harvest sign

I used
to
adhere the burlap
to the
background masonite panel

I then trimmed the excess edges

I sanded the shadow box frame lightly
 before
coating it
with

I use a spong brush to apply this

I used a sponge roller to apply 2 good coats of
paint to the frame
with
Avocado

I used painters tape
to tape off
the
inner edge
of
the frame
I painted
that
Lamp Black

I used
my
Lowell Cornell Fine Line Writing Pen
to
paint the
  blanket stitch
on
the
frame

I added some moss behind the fence

This was a fun project to paint!

It is thyme to send a post card to the North Pole

Today
I want to show you a design
by
that I have painted

It is called

POST CARD TO THE NORTH POLE

You can find the pattern
to
 this design
in
the book

TOLE FAIRIES

Let's step inside
my
STUDIO
and
I will show you how I painted this project

My Pallette

Camel , Honey Brown, Sand, Antique Gold, Buttermilk, Lamp Black, Heritage Brick, Espresso, Graphite, Avacado Dip, Titanium White, Burnt Orange, Black Plum, Marigold, Slate Grey, Plantation Pine, Light Avacado, Paynes Grey

Speciality Products
Americana Multi Purpose Sealer, DecoArt Acrylic Matte Spray Varnish, Decopage Medium, DecoArt Snow-Tex, Flora Craft Diamond Dust, graphite paper, sanding sticks, sponge roller brush, sea sponge

Let's Paint!!!!

Before painting it is very important to prepare your surface properly
so you the end result is perfect!

I first sanded then sealed my pieces using

I initially used a spong roller to roll on the following values
Honey Brown, Camel and Sand

This gave my surface
"tea dyed" look
I then used
 a
SEA SPONGE
and
additional values
 to add
texture
 to
my surface

After my surface was completely dry
 I used graphite paper
to
transfer the main pattern lines
( I keep a small travel blow dryer on my paint table for drying paint quickly)

Base coating the main elements of the design

Kim Hogue's projects are always full of wonderful
 techniques
 and
details!

In this project you do a lot of "scumbling" to create shaded areas

Working on the pine tree
 and
details on the snowman

A closer look!

The flag "banner"
is
actually cardstock
that you paint!

When the paint was dry
I painted over the cardstock banners
 with

I then glued the banners to my surface

Painting the postmark and stamp

Close up
of the
POSTMARK

The "embellishment kit"
 contains
a tiny star that you paint
for
the tree and glue on

I used
for the snow

I also added
DIAMOND DUST
to make the snow
SPARKLE

Painting the stocking ornament

Who knew that you could KNIT with your paint brush!

Finished stocking ornament

My completed project!
