Thyme to show you Fisher of Men

Today I wanted to show you a project
called
Fisher of Men

This project can be found in
Lynne Andrews
new book
ABUNDANTLY BLESSED

The whale plaque measures 22 1/2" long X 7 1/2" wide

My Palette

Antique Gold, Antique Green, Antique White, Blue Mist, Burnt Umber, Buttermilk, Cool White, deep Midnight Blue, French Grey Blue, Grey Storm, Lamp Black, Plantation Pine, Rockwood Red, Slate Grey, Spiced Pumpkin, Yellow Ochre

Dazzling Metallic
Glorious Gold

LETS PAINT!

I began by lightly sanding the whale.
Next I applied
DecoArt Multi Purpose Sealer
I began by base coating with the first coat of Lamp Black. Let dry.
I sanded again and then base coated with a second coat of Lamp Black.

Next I transferred the OVAL shape only on to the whale.

I used Lynne Andrews new Floaters to paint this project.
I really loved painting with them!

I mop between washes with a Jack Richeson Sash Brush ( Pictured above)

I used a #14 floater to wash the OVAL with Antique White.
Next I transferred the design to the oval.

I began at the top and used a #8 floater to wash in the sky with Deep Midnight Blue.
I used the sash brush to blend and soften between washes.

I then dried and repeated wash.
I washed the ocean in French Grey Blue.
The grassy areas are washed in Plantation Pine with a #4 floater.
When dry I did a wash of Antique Green on the top of the grass.
Always use mop to soften and blend.

I dry brushed the clouds in with a #6 stippler in Cool White.
When dry I did a wash of Cool White over the clouds. I mopped and blended well.
I then started to work on the buildings.

The buildings are named left to right
Fresh Fish, Dining and Tavern.

The chimney rocks are a mix of Black, Cool White, Burnt Umber and Slate Grey.

The ship is washed in Burnt Umber.
I mopped to blend and soften wash.

I added additional washes of Burnt Umber to the ship to get desired depth of color.
The floats on top of ship are Lamp Black. I used Cool White to highlight.

Next I painted the sails on the ship.
The sails were first washed with Buttermilk then mopped.
Dry completely.

Once the sails were dry I did a wash of Cool White.
I mopped to soften and blend.
I shaded the folds on the sails with Burnt Umber.
I floated around the masts with a combination of Burnt Umber and Lamp Black.

I painted in the mast posts with Lamp Black.

Close up view.

I transferred the posts behind the buildings lightly.

I used a Rotring Tech Pen 0.1 for all the line work.

Close up showing posts behind buildings added.

I added  shading and highlighting to all the buildings.
I  added the shingles to the house and roof with the Rotring Pen.

I am now painting the signs on each of the buildings.

I sprayed Krylon Workable Fixative on my piece so that the pen would not smear.

I transferred the remaining outside design to the surface using white transfer paper.
All elements on the black background with the exception of the banner got a Buttermilk wash.
The banner was washed with Antique White. I used the mop to soften and blend.

I am working on the pelican.

Continuing to work on the back ground design.

I have added the rope, anchor and sea gull.

Close up of left side.

I used a ruler and the Roetring Pen to add the rigging to the posts behind buildings.

I transferred the lettering to the banner.

Working on the lettering.

I have now added the rigging on the ship.

I again sprayed any areas where I used the pen with Krylon Fixative to prevent smudges.

I have painted the pelican on the right side and added the lettering.

Almost done!

Close up view of right side.

Close up view of left side.

I applied several coats of DecoArt Matte Sealer to my piece when completed.

I attached (2) 1/2" screw eyes to the top of the piece and added a 16" piece of roping to hang.

It's Christmas TIME

It's
CHRISTMAS THYME
so that means late nights in the
STUDIO
 to
MAKE THE MAGIC HAPPEN!

Lets step in out of the cold to see what I have been painting!

I am painting a project
called

CHRISTMAS TIME

Design
 by
Lynne Andrews

I used
  Sheila Landry's
 Large Time Piece Wood Kit
 for this project.

You can purchase the kit

My Palette

Antique Gold, Antique White, Burnt Umber, Buttermilk, Cool White, Country Red, Flesh tone, Lamp Black, Plantation Pine, Rookwood Red

Lets paint!

I had to enlarge my design and adjust it a bit to fit my surface.

Main elements of design transferred to surface.

The surface was base coated with 2 coats of Antique White.

I washed the border around the design with Antique Gold.

Santa's face is washed with Fleshtone.
I mopped the area to blend and dry.
I then
 floated
Burnt Umber up along the outside of nose
and
up and over to form the eye area.

I use a variety of Lowell Cornell Ultra Round brushes for the "washes".

I use "duster stippler's " for mopping.

I added a touch of Lamp Black to imply each eye.
Next I added a dot using Cool White to the eyes.
I used Burnt Umber to float around his mustache.

I dragged some of the Burnt Umber float down onto Santa's beard.
I mop often to soften the floats.
I added a wash of Country Red to the cheeks.

I did a wash of Rookwood Red on the hat and shoulders.

I use a "Maxine Mop" and my Ultra Rounds for smaller areas.

After the Rookwood Red wash was dry I added a wash of Country Red over it.

I used a #6 scumbler to heavily stipple Buttermilk to the fur areas and pompom.
The stipple should extend slightly over the edges to appear "fuzzy".

I used a #2 Ultra Round to add some tiny white fur lines with Cool White.

I washed some Antique Gold here and there on the fur to add warmth.
I floated around the pompom and other areas with that need to stand out with Burnt Umber.

I love painting beards!

I use a Silver Micron Mini Brush.

I have a variety of Micron Mini brushes for fine detail work.

Working on the beard.

Close up of the beard.
I also used my detail brush to pull some tiny fur hairs out on to the jacket.

I am now working on Santa's mustache.

Once the beard was completed I transferred the holly vine.

Painting the holly vine and berries.

Such a handsome jolly fellow!

The background is striped first with a double row of Plantation Pine.
I then added a single Rookwood stripe between the green stripes.

The "insert" piece is done for now.

I transferred the Roman Numerals to the outer edge and painted them Lamp Black.

Roman Numerals completed.

I will now add some antiquing to the outer edge for a vintage look.

I loaded my Stain It Brush with Burnt Umber
I wiped it on my paper towel until it was very dry.
I randomly brushed around the inner and outer edges of the surface.
You should not see "wet paint".
Be sure your brush is "DRY".

Moon Brushes are also good for dry brushing.

Inner and outer surfaces are antiqued.

I used a large stencil brush with my palette knife to spatter the outer ring with Lamp Black.

Inner surface and middle outer ring complete.

There is one more ring to complete!

I base coated this ring with Rookwood Red leaving a band of Buttermilk.

I added checks all around the inside of the ring with Lamp Black.

I used my Moon Brush to dry brush the outer area of the checks with Lamp Black.

I varnished all pieces with several coats of

I used wood glue to carefully glue each section together.

I used a pocket watch chain to attach the fob.
