Thyme to show you a bureau and mirror make over using Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paints

Today
I wanted to show you a bureau makeover done with
Americana Decor Chalky finish paints

are
wonderful to work with!
  • Ultra-matte Chalky Finish
  • Available in 29 vintage, intermixable colors
  • Adheres to even the slickest surface
  • Easier to distress than any other acrylic paints
  • One-coat coverage with most colors on most surfaces
  • Durable due to unique cross linking features of paint resin system
  • Water-based for easy clean-up
  • Made in the USA

I had done a "make-over" on this maple bureau in 2009

I used sponges and stamped a flower design on this bureau,
 thus creating a textured surface.
I also used a GLOSS varnish to finish this piece.
Normally you would not need to sand a surface to use
chalky paints.

Because of the textured, gloss surface
I chose to give this piece a
light sanding with my electric sander
 before
painting

I first applied a coat
of

Americana Decor RUSTIC

when dry I applied a coat
of
over the

When dry I wet sanded using a sanding block
to give my piece a primitive look

This also allows for the coat of RUSTIC that I first painted to show thru.

Deco Art offers several different finishing options

I chose to use the
Americana Decor Clear Creme Wax
on this piece

I used my waxing brush to apply the creme wax

I purchased new hardware to complete the look of this bureau

I then began the "makeover"
of a
oval OAK mirror

I used
to paint this mirror

When dry I wet sanded again for a primitive look
using a sanding block

I then applied
Americana DECOR Clear Creme Wax
to finish the mirror
I let the
Clear Creme Wax
dry
then went over it with a coat of the
Americana DECOR Deep Brown Wax
to tone the BLUE down

I really love the result!

It's THYME to show you an armoir make over using AMERICANA DECOR Chalky Finish Paints

As a member of the DecoArt Helping Artist Program

it is
ALWAYS
fun to receive a box of wonderful supplies
to experiment with

are
wonderful to work with!
  • Ultra-matte Chalky Finish
  • Available in 29 vintage, intermixable colors
  • Adheres to even the slickest surface
  • Easier to distress than any other acrylic paints
  • One-coat coverage with most colors on most surfaces
  • Durable due to unique cross linking features of paint resin system
  • Water-based for easy clean-up
  • Made in the USA

Today I am going  to show you just how easy it is to transform a piece
and
give it a whole new look using Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paints!

This is an old armoir that once belonged to my husbands uncle.
I rescued it from my husbands grandmothers basement over 20 years ago.
It was painted ORANGE  at the time!
I stripped it down to it's "natural state" .
That is how it has remained all these years!
It is not a solid wood, rather a veneer.
Because of its age there has been a lot of
chipping and breaking off of the veneer
along the bottom.
It would be difficult to repair so I decided to paint it once again.

Always use the
GOOD QUALITY BRUSHES
when working on a project
to ensure
THE BEST POSSIBLE RESULTS!

I used

for this make over.
I painted the entire piece first using
CARBON

When dry I then painted over the
CARBON
using
LEGACY
which is a
BRIGHT BLUE

I then WET sanded my piece using a sanding brick as pictured

In doing this I exposed some of the
CARBON color
that I originally applied to show thru.
This process gives your piece a prim distressed look.

AND
Now for the
FINISH!
DecoArt has a line of Varnishes and Waxes to complete your piece.

I finished my piece by using

When the
  CLEAR  creme wax
was dry I rubbed on some
AMERICANA DECOR Deep Brown Wax
in areas
to tone down the
BRIGHT LEGACY BLUE

and to further distress my piece.

The
AMERICANA DECOR CHALKY FINISH
paints are a fun, easy way to change the look of a piece and give it new life!

It is thyme to show you how to transform an old bathroom vanity into a NEW one using Americana DECOR Chalky Finish Paints

You can easily re-purpose just about anything with a little imagination
and
 some paint!

Instead of buying a new vanity I decided to transform it
 with a little help
 from my husband
and

These paints
are
wonderful to work with!
  • Ultra-matte Chalky Finish
  • Available in 29 vintage, intermixable colors
  • Adheres to even the slickest surface
  • Easier to distress than any other acrylic paints
  • One-coat coverage with most colors on most surfaces
  • Durable due to unique cross linking features of paint resin system
  • Water-based for easy clean-up
  • Made in the USA

My husband took the doors off of our "oak finish" vanity along with the top and sink.
He resurfaced the vanity right over the existing surface with beadboard.

This is the shell of the vanity.

I designed a new top for the vanity
and
my husband made it

I first painted the vanity using
ROMANCE
Chalky Finish Paint

Be sure you purchase the best brushes
and
tools you can to insure an awesome finish!
Deco Art  carries a line of brushes for their chalky finish paints, waxes and varnishes.

After the
RED
Romance Chalky Finish Paint
was dry I painted right over it with
BLACK
Carbon Chalky Finish Paint

I then WET SAND using a FINE sanding brick.
This allows your base coat ( the red) to show thru.
You want to sand in areas that would normally show "wear"
to give your piece a primitive look

I lighly sanded the doors where the knobs would go
and
in a few areas on the top and sides

The RED paint will show thru that you painted first.

It is now thyme to finish your piece.
offers both
Creme Waxes or Varnishes
 to complete your projects.
The choice is yours!

I used
Clear Creme Wax
 to complete this project

I bought a COPPER sink and Black Oil Rubbed Bronze faucet for my vanity

My husband installed the sink and faucet

I added Black Wrought Iron hinges and painted wood knobs.

This was a FUN project to do!

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial !
